Our Story - A Family Tradition.
Founded in 1978, Arthur is a family-owned business rooted in tradition, integrity, and a deep respect for the art of bespoke tailoring. For almost five decades, we have quietly built a reputation as one of the country’s finest destinations for custom clothing, offering an unwavering commitment to quality and personal service.
Our story begins with Arthur Der Shahinian, a master tailor who began his apprenticeship at the age of sixteen as a custom shirt maker. After immigrating to Canada in 1974, Arthur honed his craft in Montreal, combining classical techniques with rigorous study in pattern making and tailoring. In 1978, he opened his first boutique on Jean-Talon Street - then known as Montreal’s Savile Row - and began a lifelong journey of dressing gentlemen with elegance and precision.
In 2001, we moved to Crescent Street in the heart of the Golden Square Mile, and in 2011, expanded to our current location. Along the way, Arthur’s sons, David and John, joined him in the workshop. Having grown up watching their father at the cutting table, they carry on his legacy with the same devotion to craftsmanship, attention to detail, and care for each client who walks through the door.
Today, Arthur is more than a tailoring house - it’s a continuation of a family philosophy, where each garment is a reflection of our values: timeless style, personal attention, and excellence without compromise. Over the years, our services have grown to include not only bespoke suits and shirts, but also custom-made shoes, knitwear, outerwear, jeans and refined accessories—all curated with the same thoughtful approach.
